Best Way to Add Keywords to a Topic

An essential part of effective social media monitoring is getting your keywords right. This guide shows you how to best use keywords in your Topics.

JamiQ provides the flexibility of three different options:

  1. MAY Include … OR
  2. MUST Include … AND
  3. MUST Exclude … OR

MAY Include ... OR

Use this option if you want to monitor for either one of multiple keywords. For example, you want to monitor for entries that contain either ipod or iphone. Entries that mention about iPod but not iPhone will also be picked up by JamiQ.

Note: If you have only one keyword in the MAY Include option, you it will be treated as a MUST include because it's the only option here.

MUST Include ... AND

Use this option if you want to monitor for all of these keywords. For example, you want to monitor for entries that contain either ipod and iphone. Entries need to mention both iPod and iPhone in order to be picked up JamiQ.

MUST Exclude ... OR

Use this option to exclude any entries with these keywords. Exclude uses the OR operator which means as long as one of these words are found in any entry, that entry will be excluded from monitoring by JamiQ.

Tips & Tricks

  • Start with one generic keyword to make sure you're getting proper results first and add more later to refine your monitoring.
  • Before you commit any keywords to be monitored, do a quick check on Google to make sure people are talking about your brands in relation to those keywords.
  • Do not use long phrases, it is unlikely many people will be saying it in exactly the same way.
  • JamiQ automatically assumes you want multiple keywords in a single box as a fixed phrase so you do not need to put quote marks around them.
